Indocin Side Effects

Rare Indocin Side Effects

During clinical studies, some side effects occurred rarely (in less than 1 percent of cases) in people taking Indocin. Because these reactions are so uncommon, it is often difficult to tell whether they are actually caused by the medication itself or something else. These problems include but are not limited to:

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Allergic reaction
  • Inflammation of the rectum (proctitis)
  • Insomnia
  • Ulcer in the stomach or intestines (peptic ulcer)
  • Unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Gas
  • Anemia
  • Anxiety
  • Uncontrolled muscle movements
  • Mental confusion
  • Worsening of existing nervous system conditions, including epilepsy, depression, and Parkinson's
  • Weight gain (see Indocin and Weight Gain)
  • Hair loss (alopecia)
  • Changes in vision from deposits in the cornea or problems with the retina
  • Swelling
  • Unexplained rash
  • Itching.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the Indocin side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will experience problems with a medicine that you have never tried.

Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects or simply something that "just does not seem right." While it may not be related to Indocin, your healthcare provider should be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
