Indocin Precautions and Warnings

In the case of Indocin, precautions and warnings to be aware of include such things as interactions that may occur with other drugs (such as other NSAIDs). Other precautions and warnings for Indocin users include an increased risk for high blood pressure, ulcers, and congestive heart failure. Additional Indocin precautions and warnings involve avoiding the medication if you are nursing or are in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Indocin Precautions and Warnings: An Introduction

Before starting Indocin^® (indomethacin), let your healthcare provider know if you have:

Asthma
Heart disease, including congestive heart failure
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Liver disease or liver failure
Kidney disease or kidney failure
Bleeding problems or are taking a medicine that decreases the ability for blood to clot
Diabetes
Stomach ulcers, stomach bleeding, or a history of them
Digestive system problems, including ulcerative colitis or diverticulitis
Depression
Epilepsy
Parkinson's disease
Any allergies to medicines, including aspirin or other NSAID pain medicines.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant
Are breastfeeding
Drink alcohol frequently
Smoke
Are having or have recently had heart surgery.

Don't forget to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you may currently be taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
