Fibromyalgia Drugs
There are currently three medications that have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) specifically for treating fibromyalgia:
- Lyrica® (pregabalin)
- Cymbalta® (duloxetine)
- Savella™ (milnacipran hydrochloride).
However, this doesn't mean that other drugs can't be used to treat fibromyalgia. In many cases, drugs that are approved for other uses, such as antidepressants or antiseizure medications, will be prescribed "off-label" for fibromyalgia.
Nonprescription pain relievers and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be recommended as well. Some of these products include:
- Advil®, Motrin® (ibuprofen)
- Aleve® (naproxen sodium)
- Tylenol® (acetaminophen).
