Effects of Fibromyalgia

If you have widespread muscle pain, fatigue, and multiple tender points, you may have a condition called fibromyalgia. This condition affects as many as 1 in every 50 people, and a majority of those affected are women.
 
Tender points are specific places on the body -- on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and upper and lower extremities -- where people with fibromyalgia feel pain in response to slight pressure. Although fibromyalgia is not a type of arthritis, its effects can cause significant pain and fatigue that can interfere with a person's ability to carry out daily activities. Also, like arthritis, fibromyalgia is considered a rheumatic condition.
