Fentanyl (
Abstral®,
Actiq®,
Duragesic®,
Fentora®,
Onsolis™) is a strong opioid narcotic medication. In fact, even small amounts can cause life-threatening complications if used by someone for whom the medication is not prescribed. For example, a person can easily develop fentanyl toxicity if he or she is not used to the effects of opioid medications.
Possible signs of toxicity with fentanyl include:
- Extreme drowsiness or sedation
- Breathing problems, including slow and shallow breathing
- Slow heartbeat
- Problems thinking, walking, or talking normally.
