Exalgo Warnings and Precautions

Before taking Exalgo, tell your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you have, such as gallbladder disease, low blood pressure, or lung disease. Also, this pain medicine can cause drug interactions, so it's important that your healthcare provider is aware of all other medicines you are taking (including nonprescription products). Other precautions and warnings with Exalgo apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Prior to taking Exalgo™ (hydromorphone ER), tell your healthcare provider if you have:
  • Gallbladder or pancreas disease
  • Narrowing of the digestive tract, often due to:
    • Esophageal strictures
    • "Short gut" syndrome
    • Inflammatory bowel disease
    • Past history of peritonitis
    • Cystic fibrosis
    • Meckel's diverticulum
    • Past gastrointestinal surgery
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
  • Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Breastfeeding.
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
