Embeda Side Effects

Serious Side Effects

Some side effects with Embeda, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:

  • The urge to take more Embeda than prescribed or for a non-medical purpose (see Embeda Abuse)
  • Confusion
  • Severe constipation
  • Falling or unsteadiness
  • Slow or irregular breathing
  • A slow heart rate (bradycardia)
  • Difficulty passing urine
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Severe drowsiness
  • Seizures
  • Unusual changes in behavior or mood (including depression)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:

    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing.

It should be noted that many people develop itching due to morphine (one of the active ingredients in Embeda), but are not allergic to the medication. Morphine causes a release of histamine, resulting in itching unrelated to any allergy. If you develop itching but no other allergy symptoms, it is unlikely that you are allergic to Embeda. However, make sure to tell your healthcare provider, as there are medications available to help relieve the itching.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the Embeda side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried.

Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of Embeda, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
