Embeda Drug Interactions

Embeda Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Embeda is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alcohol
You must not take Embeda and consume alcohol. Alcohol increases the risk of serious side effects, such as extreme drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Even more importantly, alcohol causes the slow-release beads in the Embeda capsules to release morphine too quickly, possibly resulting in an overdose. You must avoid all alcohol (including alcohol in medicines and foods) while taking Embeda.

Alvimopan
Embeda may increase the risk of serious alvimopan side effects. You should not take alvimopan if you have taken Embeda for each of the past seven days.

Antidepressant Medications
Combining an antidepressant with Embeda could increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may occur. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking Embeda with an antidepressant, as you may need to be monitored more closely and the dose of your medications may need to be adjusted.

Antihistamines
Many antihistamines cause significant drowsiness and can cause serious problems when used in combination with other medications that cause drowsiness, such as Embeda. Check with your healthcare provider before taking Embeda with an antihistamine, including nonprescription antihistamines.

Antipsychotic Medications
Combining an antipsychotic medication with Embeda can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may occur. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking Embeda with an antipsychotic medication.
