Dosing With Diclofenac Sodium

Factors that can affect dosing with diclofenac sodium include the condition that is being treated and any current medications. When treating different types of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dose is 50 mg to 75 mg, which may be taken two or three times a day. For the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, guidelines on dosing with diclofenac sodium call for 25 mg, four times a day.

 

Dosing With Diclofenac Sodium: An Introduction

The dose of diclofenac sodium (Voltaren®) that your healthcare provider prescribes will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
 
  • The form of diclofenac sodium
  • The medical condition you are being treated for
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.
     
As always, do not adjust your diclofenac sodium dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
 

Dosing With Diclofenac Sodium for Osteoarthritis

For symptoms of osteoarthritis, the recommended diclofenac sodium dosage is 50 mg or 75 mg. Diclofenac sodium 50 mg may be taken two or three times a day. Diclofenac sodium 75 mg may be taken twice a day. The recommended daily amount when dosing with diclofenac sodium is 100 to 150 mg.
 
If you're taking diclofenac sodium extended-release, the recommended dosage for the relief of osteoarthritis symptoms is 100 mg, once a day.
 

Dosing With Diclofenac Sodium for Rheumatoid Arthritis

When treating symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended diclofenac sodium dosage is either 50 mg or 75 mg. Diclofenac sodium 50 mg may be taken three or four times a day. Diclofenac sodium 75 mg may be taken twice a day. The recommended daily amount when dosing with diclofenac sodium is 150 to 200 mg.
 
If you're taking diclofenac sodium extended-release, the recommended dosage for the relief of rheumatoid arthritis symptoms is 100 mg, once a day.
