People who have certain types of arthritis may benefit from using diclofenac sodium (Voltaren®). This medication is a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the effects of certain hormones in the body that cause pain and inflammation. As a result, diclofenac can help relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Most people tolerate this medication well. However, side effects are possible and may include headaches, nausea, and diarrhea.
