Precautions and Warnings With Diclofenac Potassium

There are many precautions and warnings with diclofenac potassium to be aware of. For example, diclofenac potassium can cause high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, kidney or liver damage, or stomach or intestinal problems in some people. There are also certain people who should avoid taking diclofenac potassium, including those who have recently had coronary bypass graft surgery and those who are allergic to any part of the medication.

Diclofenac Potassium: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking diclofenac potassium (Cambia^™, Cataflam^®, Zipsor^™) if you have:

Asthma
Heart disease, including congestive heart failure
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Liver disease, such as hepatitis, liver failure, or cirrhosis
Kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure)
Bleeding problems (or if you are taking a medicine that decreases the ability of your blood to clot)
Diabetes
Stomach ulcers, stomach bleeding, or a history of either condition
Any allergies to medicines, including aspirin or other NSAID pain medicines.

Also let your healthcare provider know if you:

Are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant
Are breastfeeding
Smoke
Drink alcohol frequently
Have recently had heart surgery.

Also, tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you may be currently taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
