Demerol Drug Interactions

A number of medications may interact with Demerol. Problems may occur if the pain reliever is taken together with protease inhibitors, triptans, or cimetidine, among other medications. These drug interactions could decrease the metabolism of Demerol into normeperidine (the toxic metabolite of the medicine), increase the risk of side effects, or cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome.
