Demerol 50 mg Tablets
Demerol® (meperidine hydrochloride) is a prescription narcotic used for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. This medication comes in tablet, oral solution (liquid), and injectable form. The tablets are available in two strengths: 50 mg and 100 mg. The injectable forms of this drug can also be used for anesthesia, preoperative use, and pain relief during labor and delivery.
The standard recommended oral or injectable dosage for treating pain in adults is Demerol 50 mg to 150 mg every three to four hours as necessary. For children, the dosage is based on weight.
The standard recommended injectable Demerol dose for preoperative use is 50 to 100 mg given 30 to 60 minutes before the start of anesthesia. For children, the proper dosage will be calculated using your child's weight.
When used as part of anesthesia of surgery, Demerol is given intravenously.
Labor and Delivery
The standard recommended injectable Demerol dosage for use during labor is 50 to 100 mg injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously once pain becomes regular. The dose may be repeated every one to three hours as necessary.
