Darvocet Warnings and Precautions

Specific Precautions and Warnings for Darvocet

Warnings and precautions to be aware of prior to taking Darvocet include the following:
  • Darvocet contains a narcotic medication and has a significant potential for abuse. It is not a good choice for people who have a history of alcohol or drug abuse (see Darvocet Addiction). Do not take the drug more frequently, longer, or at a higher dose than prescribed. If you feel you may be developing a problem with Darvocet, please seek help from your healthcare provider.
  • An overdose (either accidental or intentional) with Darvocet can be extremely dangerous. In some cases, an overdose can be lethal within 15 minutes. Be sure to follow your Darvocet dosage instructions very carefully and do not exceed the recommended amount.
Because it is very dangerous in the case of an overdose, Darvocet should be prescribed cautiously to people with depression or suicidal tendencies (see Darvocet Overdose for more information).
  • Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Darvocet affects you. Your reflexes and reaction times may be significantly affected, even if you feel fine.

  • Make sure your healthcare provider knows if you have lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, or gallbladder problems before you take Darvocet. Darvocet may not be the best choice for you.

  • Darvocet can potentially interact with several other medications (see Darvocet Drug Interactions).
  • Darvocet is considered a pregnancy Category C medication. This means that it may not be safe for use during pregnancy, although the full risks are not known (see Darvocet and Pregnancy).
  • Darvocet passes through breast milk. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or plan to start, discuss this with your healthcare provider prior to taking the drug (see Darvocet and Breastfeeding).
