Generic ConZip

At this time, ConZip is not available in generic form. The first patent for this medication is set to expire in April 2022, which is the earliest estimated date that a generic version could be manufactured. Although other medications contain the same active ingredient as ConZip, they are not technically considered interchangeable.

Can I Buy Generic ConZip?

ConZip™ (tramadol ER) is a prescription pain medication. It comes as a long-acting capsule that is taken once daily. It is approved for treating moderate-to-moderately severe chronic pain in people age 18 and older.
Brand-name ConZip is made by Vertical Pharmaceuticals, Inc. There are no generic versions of ConZip available at this time, as the medication is protected by patents that prevent any generic versions from being made.

When Will a Generic Version Be Available?

The first patent for ConZip is set to expire in April 2022. This is the earliest predictable date that a generic version could become available.
However, other circumstances could come up to extend or delay this exclusivity period. This could include such things as lawsuits or other patents for new ConZip uses. Once the patent expires, there may be several companies that manufacture a generic ConZip drug.

Is Tramadol a Generic ConZip?

No -- tramadol is the active ingredient in ConZip (as well as a few other medications), but is not a generic version of it. What can be confusing is that the active ingredient of a drug is often referred to as the "generic name."
The generic name is different from a generic version of a medicine. In order for there to be a generic version, the original medicine must have gone off-patent and another company besides the original manufacturer must make the product.
ConZip is the only long-acting capsule form of tramadol. Other long-acting tramadol medications are not interchangeable with ConZip, at least from a technical perspective.
