Common Side Effects of Celecoxib

Celecoxib has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, side effects are always documented. The most common side effects of celecoxib (observed in 2 percent or more of people taking the drug) included but were not limited to:
 
  • Abdominal pain -- up to 4.1 percent of people
  • Diarrhea -- up to 5.6 percent
  • Indigestion, known medically as dyspepsia -- up to 8.8 percent
  • Gas -- up to 2.2 percent
  • Swelling of the arms or legs -- up to 2.1 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 2 percent
  • Sore throat -- up to 2.3 percent
  • Runny nose -- up to 2 percent
  • Sinus infection or inflammation -- up to 5 percent
  • Upper respiratory tract infection, including the common cold -- up to 8.1 percent
  • Unexplained rash -- up to 2.2 percent.
      

Rare Side Effects With Celecoxib

During clinical studies, rare side effects of celecoxib occurred in less than 2 percent of people taking the drug. Because these side effects are so uncommon, it is difficult to tell whether they were caused by the medication or something else. These side effects included but were not limited to:

You may experience some or none of the side effects of celecoxib listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to tell your healthcare provider if you develop any side effects while taking the drug. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you develop something that "just doesn't seem right." You may not be experiencing a celecoxib side effect, but your healthcare provider can diagnose and treat the problem.
