Carisoprodol (Soma®) is a medication approved for treating muscle spasms caused by injury or other problems. It is available by prescription and comes in the form of a tablet that is generally taken three times a day and at bedtime. Although carisoprodol is not a controlled substance, it has the potential to be abused. The muscle relaxant should not be used for more than two or three weeks at a time. Potential side effects include headache, dizziness, and drowsiness.
