Can Children Use Buprenex?

This medication is approved for use in children as young as two years old. Interestingly, children may metabolize this medication faster than adults, and more frequent doses may be necessary.

Can Older Adults Use It?

Yes -- older adults can use Buprenex. However, they may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medication, including respiratory depression (decreased breathing). Therefore, this medication should be used with caution in older adults. A healthcare provider may recommend a lower dosage and additional monitoring when prescribing this drug to an older person.

Is Buprenex Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this medication for something other than the uses discussed in this article. This is known as an "off-label" use. For example, using Buprenex for addiction treatment or for use during labor and delivery would be considered off-label uses of the drug.
