Buprenex Drug Interactions

A number of medications may interact with Buprenex. For example, problems may occur if the pain reliever is combined with alcohol, benzodiazepines, or muscle relaxants, among other medications. These reactions with Buprenex could increase your risk for serious and potentially life-threatening complications, such as breathing problems, memory loss, and extreme drowsiness.

An Overview of Interactions With Buprenex

Buprenex® (buprenorphine injection) is a pain reliever that is given by injection into a muscle (intramuscular injection) or by intravenous infusion (by IV). It can potentially interact with several other medications.
 
Some of the medications that may lead to Buprenex drug interactions include but are not limited to:
 
  • Alcohol
  • Benzodiazepines, such as:
 
 
  • CYP 3A4 inducer medications, such as:
 
 
  • CYP 3A4 inhibitor medications, such as:
 
 
  • Medications that cause drowsiness, such as:
 
 
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as:
