Ansaid
® (
flurbiprofen) is a prescription medicine used for the relief of mild to moderate pain, inflammation, fever, and/or stiffness caused by
osteoarthritis or
rheumatoid arthritis. It belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or
NSAIDs for short.
(Click Ansaid Uses for more information on these uses, as well as possible off-label uses for Ansaid.)
The medication is manufactured by Pfizer.
Ansaid and other NSAIDs are thought to work by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. These hormones are called prostaglandins.
By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, Ansaid is useful at reducing fever and pain related to a number of conditions.
This includes pain related to inflammation or bone, muscle, or tendon injury; and pain and joint swelling associated with different forms of
arthritis and other conditions. Ansaid is not a cure for these
types of arthritis, nor does it affect the progression of the disease.
