Anakinra Dosing

When treating rheumatoid arthritis, the typical dose of anakinra is 100 mg, injected once a day. However, people with severe kidney disease may only require an injection once every other day. For NOMID treatment, the dosage is based on weight. Once your healthcare provider shows you how to give an injection, you may give yourself the dose.

Anakinra Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of anakinra (Kineret®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The condition being treated
  • Your weight (for NOMID treatment)
  • The severity of your inflammation (for NOMID treatment)
  • Other medications you may be taking
  • Other medical conditions you may have.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

What Is the Dose for Rheumatoid Arthritis?

For most people, the recommended anakinra dose for rheumatoid arthritis treatment is 100 mg injected under the skin once daily. For people with severe kidney disease, the recommended dose is 100 mg injected under the skin every other day.

What Is the Dose for NOMID?

For treating neonatal-onset multisystem inflammatory disease (NOMID), the dosage is based on weight. The recommended starting dosage is 1 to 2 mg of anakinra per kg of body weight (about 0.45 to 0.91 mg per pound) once a day. Your healthcare provider may recommend increasing the dosage as needed, especially to control active inflammation, up to 8 mg per kg per day (about 3.6 mg per pound per day).

Although once-a-day dosing is recommended, sometimes splitting the dose into two doses a day may be necessary to control inflammation in some people.
